Aubigné-sur-Layon
L'église a été fondée au XIème siècle et remaniée aux XIIème et XIIIème siècles. Les fresques ont été peintes en 1709 et restaurées en 1805. Une partie de la nef date du XIème siècle, le reste a étté reconstruit au XIIème et le transept un siècle plus tard.
LES FRESQUES EN TROMPE-l'OEIL
Les fresques en trompe-l'oeil ont été peintes en 1709 par l'artiste italien Paolo Baronni. Elles ont été restaurées en 1805. De nouveaux travaux de restauration viennent de débuter et l'église est fermée au public.
The trompe-l'oeil frescoes were painted in 1709 par Italian artist, Paolo Baronni. They were restored in 1805. New restoration work has just begun and the church is closed to the public.
Exode (XXV: 10-22): "Ils feront une arche de bois d'acacia; sa longueur sera de deux coudées et demie, sa largeur d'unecoudée et demie, et sa hauteur d'une coudée et demie. Tu la revêtiras d'or pur, en dedans et en dehors, et tu y feras une guirlande d'or tout autour. Tu fondras pour elle quatre anneaux d'or, que tu mettras à ses quatre pieds, deux anneaux d'un côté et deux anneaux de l'autre. Tu feras des barres de bois d'acacia, et tu les revêtiras d'or. Tu passeras les barres dans les anneaux sur les côtés de l'arche, pour qu'elles servent à porter l'arche. Les barres resteront dans les anneaux de l'arche, et n'en seront point retirées. Tu mettras dans l'arche le témoignage que je te donnerai. Tu feras un propitiatoire d'or pur; sa longueur sera de deux coudées et demie, et sa largeur d'une coudée et demie. Tu feras deux chérubins d'or; tu les feras d'or battu, aux deux extrémités du propitiatoire. Fais un chérubin à l'une des extrémités et un chérubin à l'autre extrémité; vous ferez les chérubins sortant du propitiatoire à ses deux extrémités. Les chérubins auront leurs ailes déployées vers le haut, couvrant de leurs ailes le propitiatoire, et se faisant face l'un à l'autre ; les faces des chérubins seront tournées vers le propitiatoire. Tu mettras le propitiatoire au-dessus de l'arche, et tu mettras dans l'arche le témoignage que je te donnerai.
Exodus (25: 10-22): And they shall make an ark of shittim wood : two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about. And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it. is And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. 14 And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark , that the ark may be borne with them. The staves shall be in the rings of the ark : they shall not be taken from it. And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee. And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another ; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark ; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.
