The ruins of Loroux abbey, founded in the 12th century, are now in the grounds of the 19th-century château du Loroux, a few miles from Vernantes (Maine-et-Loire). The postern of the abbey and the chapel (Chapelle des hôtes) were built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The mural paintings decorating the apse of the chapel also date back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
