Église Saint-VigorMayenne (53)

Neau, Église Saint-Vigor

Neau is in the département of Mayenne, about 3.5 miles from Evron. Its Romanesque church suddenly attracted the attention of all those who are interested in mural paintings when a whole series of frescoes was discovered in 1977. These 13th-century paintings that cover the eastern and southern walls of the choir are remarkably well preserved. Some were concealed by a 17th-century altarpiece which was removed in 1983.
