Le Liget (Chemillé-sur-Indrois)

Chapelle Saint-Jean-BaptisteIndre-et-Loire (37) · commune of Chemillé-sur-Indrois

The present edifice is a small domed, circular chapel, whose walls are pierced with seven round-arched windows. The church is entered through a narrow, round-arched doorway facing south. The construction dates back to the mid-12th century. Of the nave, which probably prolonged the rotunda, only a walled-up arcade remains. This ground plan is very unusual and suggests a graveyard chapel, a baptistery or a rotunda dedicated to Our Lady.
