Chalivoy-Milon
Eglise Saint-Sylvain
A former Benedictine priory, belonging to Saint-Sulpice in Bourges, the aisleless church of Chalivoy dates back to the first half of the 12th century. The tower is surmounted by an unusual stone spire, characteristic of the second half of the same century

THE WALL PAINTINGS
1) Some of the wall paintings of Saint-Sylvain have no equivalent in France. According to some experts, the decoration of the barrel vault of the chancel may have been inspired by Baouït's Coptic art. At the centre, a large circular medallion, from which the two arms of a cross radiate. Each arm of the cross is bordered with two rows of smaller medallions encircling the bust of a martyr. The cross is cantoned with figures of prophets.
Expulsion of the traders from the Temple: this scene is rarely represented.
John, Chapter 2.(verses 13-16)
13: The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14: In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers at their business. 15: And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16: And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; you shall not make my Father's house a house of trade."
