WALL PAINTING

It dates to the 16th century and was commissioned by Louis Mars, canon of Bourges cathedral, who is represented in the painting, being presented to the Virgin Mary by Saint Louis. His initials L and M appear on the two coats of arms in the top corners. The fear of death and the concern about salvation or damnation are characteristic of the 16th century. By commissioning this painting, canon Louis Mars sought the saint's intercession with the Virgin Mary. Jesus is holding a cross supported by an angel, the symbol and prefiguration of Christ's Passion, but also of the acceptance of suffering and death.
