Eglise Saint-Loup

Saint-Loup-sur-Cher
Saint-Loup-sur-Cher

The church, dedicated to Saint Loup, (Lupo) dates to the late 12th and early 13th centuries. It consists of a three-bayed nave, a choir and a semicircular apse. The cornice of the chevet is adorned with carved corbels and column-buttresses. Wall paintings, unfortunately in a rather poor state of repair, decorate the apse: a majestas and, on the left, the Virgin and the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

(Isaïe, XI, 1-3)

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,

and a branch shal grow out of his roots:

And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the spirit of counsel and might,

the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord

(Isaiah, 11: 1-3)
